Course Detail

EDU 661 - OLS - Lang and Learning Disabilities

This course explores the links between cognition and learning (e.g., memory, auditory and verbal processing, executive function, motivation), focusing on students with language and learning disabilities to help participants build a thorough understanding of approaches that integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application in learning environments. Participants learn how to conduct educational assessments, interpret psychological assessments, and write special education reports focused on the implications of such assessments for student learning. Emphasis is placed on collaboration with various professionals and on the critical skills of data collection, analysis, and interpretation of student task-avoidant behavior. There is a focus on the academic needs of a diverse student population, including students who are considered SLD, gifted/talented, and/or English Learners (ELs).
